Kalank the movie is produced by Karan Johar and directed Abhishek Verman.  Each character of the movie arrested in love is seen trying to pay the debt of their relationship, where they find love, but they cannot complete it.
The story is based in Hussenabad in the 1940s, where the world of Roop (Alia Bhatt) suddenly changes when she agrees to marry Dev Chaudhary (Aditya Roy Kapoor) to secure the future of her sisters.
Satya (Sonakshi Sinha) who is suffering from cancer, wants to see her husband Dev settled with someone before her death, but Dev informs roop on the first night only that she will get respect in this relationship but not Love because he only loves his first wife Satya. Roop goes to Bahar Begum (Madhuri Dixit) for singing lessons where she meets Zafar (Varun Dhawan) who works as a blacksmith in a locality named Hiramadi, A parallel track of the country’s partition is also going on in the story.
The story of Kalank directed Abhishek Varman is very confusing, First half of the film is very slow. The director has spent a lot of time in establishing the characters in the before partition background. The screenplay is very weak, which makes the story  very clumsy. Film’s sets and costumes are wonderful, Watching Kalank in theater gives you a visual treat, it is a wonderful experience. In some places, Kalank reminds you of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films. Some dialogues in the film are strong, but there is an overdose of dialogues sometimes. the length of the film is too much, it could have been 20 min shorter, But the movie has its own moments, if we talk about performance, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan both have done an excellent job, Varun Dhawan has done very good acting. Alia Bhatt proved why she is the number one actress, Aditya Roy Kapoor leaves the impact in his silent role, Sonakshi has done justice with her role as the character of Satya, As a victim of incomplete love Madhuri Dixit has done a great job and will be remembered for both dance and acting. Sanjay Dutt and Kira Advani didn’t have much to do, Kunal Khemu has played the role of hate promoter Abdul very well. Hiten Tejwani has done a good job in a small role. Many songs of the film are already Hit, Pritam’s music is good.
Final Word – Kalank is strictly one time watch, watch it for Varun-Alia, and Grand sets, we are going with Three Stars out of five
