Rajkummar Rao Spills the Beans: ‘Stree 3’ Is Definitely Happening, But There’s a Twist

The actor teases fans with cryptic answers about his future in the Maddock horror-comedy universe and drops a Diwali hint.

The buzz around Stree 3 is officially back—and this time, it’s coming straight from the source. Rajkummar Rao, the face of Maddock Films’ hit horror-comedy franchise, has finally broken his silence on the much-anticipated sequel. While he didn’t drop a release date, his words were enough to reignite fan theories and fuel the frenzy surrounding the universe’s next chapter.

In a recent interview, Rao got candid—but cautiously so—about the future of Stree 3 and his potential appearances in upcoming horror-comedy crossovers. And yes, Diwali might just bring more than sweets and crackers this year.

Stree 3 Is a Lock, But the Release Is Still a Mystery

When asked about his next move in Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe and the status of Stree 3, Rajkummar Rao replied with a knowing smile, “I think it’s a little too early to give a proper answer, and honestly, I might not be the right person to speak on this. But Stree 3 is definitely happening—1000%.”

While he didn’t confirm an exact date, he acknowledged that Maddock has already announced a slate of films in this universe. Up next? A spooky new entrant titled Thama, which is slated for a Diwali 2025 release.

Naturally, the next question was whether he’ll appear in Thama, even in a brief cameo. To this, Rao gave a mischievous grin and said, “Let’s see. You’ll know on Diwali.” Classic tease move.

Diwali Gets Spookier With Thama—And Possibly Rao?

The Diwali drop of Thama, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, already has horror-comedy fans intrigued. Adding to the mix are seasoned actors like Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. But what’s really heating things up are the rumors of Rajkummar Rao making a surprise appearance—maybe even setting up Stree 3.

Thanks to Maddock’s reputation for connecting films through cameos (yes, we remember Bhediya), fans have good reason to believe this Diwali might be more interconnected than ever.

Meanwhile, Rao’s Maalik Scores Well with Viewers

While the ghost of Stree looms large, Rajkummar Rao is currently basking in the critical praise for his recent release Maalik, where he plays a gangster under Pulkit’s direction. The gritty crime drama features a powerful cast including Medha Shankar, Manushi Chhillar, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Huma Qureshi, and Saurabh Shukla.

With a 7.4 rating on IMDb and a ₹9 crore collection at the Indian box office, Maalik is holding its ground amid fierce competition—proving that Rao isn’t just surviving in the industry, he’s thriving across genres.
