Appearing on the upcoming episode of India’s Best Dancer Season 5, Ameesha looked back at the phenomenal response the film received and shared how deeply audiences were invested in her chemistry with Hrithik.
During a candid conversation with host Haarsh Limbachiyaa, the actress revealed that many fans couldn’t separate their on-screen romance from real life and genuinely hoped the two actors would end up together.

Recalling the frenzy that followed the release of Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Ameesha shared that the overwhelming admiration for their pairing reached unexpected levels when Hrithik Roshan married Sussanne Khan.
Speaking about the fan reaction, she said, “Chemistry logo ko itni acchi lagi thi ki jab Hrithik ki shaadi hui Sussanne ke sath fans bahut dukhi the.”
The actress explained that many admirers had become emotionally attached to the couple’s on-screen love story and found it difficult to accept that it would never turn into a real-life relationship.
‘Fans wanted us to get married,’ recalls Ameesha
Ameesha went on to reveal just how passionate fans were during that period. According to her, many even created albums dedicated to the pair in the hope that they would eventually tie the knot.
Sharing the surprising memory, she said, “Unhone albums banaye the in the hope that we will get married, and jabhi humne shaadi nahi ki and reel life real life mein nahi badla, they were actually heartbroken.”
She further revealed that some fans even sent emotional letters expressing their disappointment.
“Khoon mein mujhe letters milte the saying, ‘We are going to slit our wrists.’ Fans bahut naraz hote the, woh bolte the, ‘Y’all look so perfect together, please get married, we need y’all to be together.'”
Explaining the sentiment behind those messages, Ameesha said they reflected the immense emotional investment audiences had in the characters rather than being something she took literally. According to her, fans simply loved seeing them together and wished their on-screen romance had become reality.

“Toh yeh ek pyar hain, love of fans, and you know the characters, shayad jo hum sincerely play karte hain, woh dil ko chhu jate hain, so very grateful and blessed, thanks to the audience and thank God,” she said.
The actress added that when actors portray their characters with honesty and sincerity, those performances often create an emotional connection that stays with audiences for decades.
