Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious mythological epic Ramayana continues to dominate headlines as new updates about its stellar cast keep emerging. While several key roles have already been officially or widely reported, a few important characters are still under wraps. After recent reports revealed the actor playing Lord Shiva, fresh buzz now suggests that veteran actor Anupam Kher has been roped in to voice the iconic character of Jatayu.
Interestingly, earlier reports had claimed that Amitabh Bachchan would lend his voice to the noble bird king. However, the latest update has dismissed those rumours, putting Anupam Kher’s name in the spotlight.
Anupam Kher reportedly to voice Jatayu
According to recent reports, Anupam Kher is expected to lend his voice to Jatayu, one of the most revered characters in the Ramayana.
The update was reportedly confirmed by Viral Comic Book, although the makers are yet to make an official announcement. If true, the veteran actor’s powerful voice is expected to bring emotional depth to one of the epic’s most memorable characters.
Earlier speculation had linked Amitabh Bachchan to the role, but those reports are now said to be inaccurate.
Nitesh Tiwari teases the epic Jatayu-Ravan battle
One of the most anticipated moments in Ramayana is the battle between Jatayu and Ravana, played by Yash.
During a recent promotional event, director Nitesh Tiwari hinted that the sequence would be one of the film’s biggest cinematic spectacles.
Speaking about the scene, he said:
“Ravan aur Jatayu ka yuddh kitna romanchak ho sakta hai, jab aap film dekhenge, aap samajh sakte hain.”
In English, the director suggested that audiences will truly understand the scale and excitement of the battle only after watching it on the big screen.
A massive two-part cinematic spectacle
Ramayana is being produced by Namit Malhotra in collaboration with Yash and is reportedly one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.
The magnum opus is planned as a two-part saga. The first installment is scheduled to release during Diwali 2026, while the second part is expected to arrive on Diwali 2027.
Star-studded cast of Ramayana
Ramayana features one of the most impressive ensemble casts assembled for an Indian film. Ranbir Kapoor steps into the role of Lord Ram, while Sai Pallavi portrays Sita. Yash takes on the powerful character of Ravana, with Ravi Dubey playing Lakshman. Sunny Deol essays the role of Lord Hanuman, and Rakul Preet Singh appears as Shurpanakha. The film also stars Arun Govil as King Dasharath, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Vivek Oberoi as Vidyutjihva, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Shobana as Kaikesi, Kunal Kapoor as Indra Dev, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara, and Indira Krishnan as Kaushalya. If the latest reports are to be believed, Anupam Kher will also lend his voice to Jatayu, although the makers are yet to officially confirm the development.
While Anupam Kher’s reported casting as Jatayu has generated excitement among fans, audiences will have to wait for an official confirmation from the makers before considering it final.
