Days after premiering on ZEE5, Diljit Dosanjh's Satluj has been taken down in India, with the platform promising to explore every avenue to restore it.

In a surprising development, ZEE5 has made Satluj, the long-delayed Diljit Dosanjh-starrer, unavailable for streaming in India just days after its digital premiere. Satluj, which premiered on ZEE5 on July 3 after years of delays and censorship-related hurdles, had finally reached audiences in its original, uncut version under a new title. The film, previously known as Punjab ’95, is inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.

ZEE5 confirms Satluj is unavailable in India until further notice

On social media, ZEE5 thanked audiences for the overwhelming response the film had received since its release before announcing that it would no longer be available for streaming in India.

In its statement, the platform said it remains firmly committed to Satluj and the creative vision behind the film. It added that powerful storytelling has the ability to inspire, endure, and leave a lasting impact, reaffirming its commitment to backing authentic and meaningful narratives.

The platform further stated that, in light of the current developments, Satluj “will be unavailable in India until further notice” and that it is exploring every appropriate legal and procedural avenue to restore the film for Indian audiences as soon as possible.

The streaming platform hopes to bring the film back soon

Alongside the official statement, ZEE5 also posted another message on X (formerly Twitter), writing:

“Satluj may have paused. But the conversation it started hasn’t. Thank you for the incredible love. We hope to bring it back soon.”

While the platform has confirmed the temporary removal, it has not disclosed the exact reason behind the latest development.

Satluj finally released after years of delays

Directed by Honey Trehan, Satluj endured one of the longest and most closely watched release journeys in recent Hindi cinema. Originally announced as Ghallughara, the project was later retitled Punjab ’95 before finally arriving on ZEE5 as Satluj. The film remained delayed for nearly three years amid certification issues and reports of extensive cuts sought during the censor process.

When the film finally premiered on July 3, Diljit Dosanjh and director Honey Trehan confirmed that audiences would be watching the original, uncut version of the film. The project also stars Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky, Kanwaljit Singh, and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan in pivotal roles.

Fans await clarity on the film’s return

The removal of Satluj has left fans surprised, especially after the film received widespread appreciation following its OTT debut. The project, inspired by true events surrounding Jaswant Singh Khalra’s fight for justice, had finally reached viewers after a prolonged wait.

For now, ZEE5 has maintained that the suspension is temporary and has reiterated its intention to bring Satluj back to Indian audiences. Until further details emerge, viewers will have to wait for an official update regarding the film’s return to the platform.
