Popular TV actress Sumbul Touqeer Khan has reacted to a viral social media video that had sparked intense debate online. The clip, reportedly filmed at Delhi’s Jama Masjid, featured interviews with men and young boys discussing their views on hijab. However, it was the comparisons made during the conversation—equating women with toffees, fruits and dates—that drew widespread attention and criticism. Sharing the video on her Instagram Stories, Sumbul expressed disappointment over the remarks and questioned why women continue to be viewed through such analogies rather than as human beings.
What Was Said in the Viral Video?
The viral reel showed an interviewer speaking to men and young boys about their opinions on hijab and women’s covering. Several participants voiced strong support for the practice, with some saying they would do anything to protect it.
The controversy erupted after some respondents used object-based comparisons while explaining their views. One man reportedly said, “Phal ho ya auratein, dhake hue hi acche lagte hain” (Whether fruits or women, they look better when covered).
Another guy compared women to a toffee, suggesting that just as ants gather around a sweet on the ground, women without hijab attract attention. A different man used the example of dates and other food items, arguing that covered things remain protected while uncovered things attract flies and insects.
Sumbul Touqeer Khan’s Reaction
Reacting to the clip on Instagram Stories, Sumbul Touqeer Khan made it clear that she was disturbed by the way women were being discussed.
“It is so sad to see young boys talk like this. We are toffees, fruits, khajoor, everything… just not humans. Why are we not evolving with time?” she wrote.
The actress questioned why such comparisons continue to be used in discussions about women and expressed concern over the mindset reflected in the statements.

Actress Speaks Out Against Victim-Blaming
In another Instagram Story, Sumbul addressed a broader issue often linked to debates about women’s clothing—victim-blaming.
She pointed out that whenever discussions arise about rape and sexual assault, attention frequently shifts to what women were wearing rather than focusing on the perpetrators.
The actress highlighted that victims of sexual violence include infants, children, elderly women and women who wear traditional attire, including burqas. Through her post, she argued that clothing cannot be used to justify or explain such crimes.
According to Sumbul, the real issue lies in people’s mindset rather than in the clothes women choose to wear.
While the Jama Masjid interview clip has been circulating online for some time, it recently caught Sumbul Touqeer Khan’s attention, prompting the actress to share her thoughts through a series of Instagram Stories.
