Mrunal Thakur left no room for ambiguity in her post, writing:
“Creating or sharing deepfake content using my likeness is illegal and unacceptable. Consider this your formal notice to stop immediately. Any further misuse of my identity will result in legal action.”
The actress’ statement comes amid increasing concerns over the misuse of AI tools to create fake images and videos of public figures without their consent. Before Mrunal shared her own warning, content creator Ashish Chanchlani had strongly condemned the misuse of AI to manipulate images and videos of women.
In his post, Ashish wrote that people using AI to modify girls’ pictures and videos “deserve a special place in hell,” calling it one of the worst things happening on the internet. He also said those supporting such acts should be jailed and hoped that stricter laws would be introduced to deal with the issue.
In a follow-up post, he added that he would never agree with anyone trying to justify or downplay the problem, stating that “what is wrong is wrong.”
